WeWash Case Study

WeWash digitizes the shared laundry room. By the use of this smart technology, users of shared washing machines can conveniently book and pay for a machine in the app. PAYMILL supports the daughter company of BSH Hausgeräte in the payment process.


Situation

With WeWash, laundry rooms become smart. The solution of the Munich start-up, founded in 2016, consists of a combination of hardware and software, which can be connected to washing machines and dryers in multi-family houses, hotels, student residences as well as wash rooms. Users can book and pay via the app, website or telephone washers or dryers. Thus, they save unnecessary walking time with the laundry in the cellar because, for example, no free washing machine is available or the wash cycle is not yet finished. The housekeepers and landlords benefit from the digital service, since the use of coins is thus superfluous and the billing is clearly documented. WeWash offers landlords and housekeepers a favorable entry into the smart home sector.


Due to our payment process, which is not triggered by booking, but by the actual manual start of the machine, we had special technical requirements that PAYMILL could meet here. In addition, as a Munich start-up, we also want to support the local scene and profit from the personal contact clearly. We are fortunate that our offices are very close together, so you can quickly discuss extensions or optimizations personally at lunch. With PAYMILL, we have found a payment partner who offers us a service tailored to our needs, technically and personally.

Challenge

WeWash consists of a hardware and software component. "While software development is already very demanding, hardware development involves a completely different complexity," Philip Laukart says. In addition to extensive security tests and approval procedures, the selection of the manufacturers - from prototype construction, to small series production to mass-produced product - a challenge when you start from scretch. "We have profited a lot from the experience of our mother company, BSH Hausgeräte, and the know-how of our colleagues and employees who show their experience every day."


Outcome


The sharing concept is already very popular. In order to guarantee its customers a secure and flexible payment processing, the startup from Munich has decided to integrate the PAYMILL API. Customers can now simply pay via the app by credit card or via SEPA direct debit.
